Personal experiences of Crisis, Loss and Trauma are common in all countries throughout the world. In addition to first-hand experiences, many have witnessed unsettling or terrifying events. Even hearing descriptions of these events can cause Vicarious (indirect) Trauma, also known as Secondary Trauma. These traumas may have occurred in our homes or in a wider context in our lives and ministry around the world. These may include violence; infectious disease pandemics; childhood injuries; abuse; rape; military conscription; missionary relocation; devastating illness, including mental illness; spiritual oppression; slavery; gender identify confusion; suicide; terror; war; genocide; torture; physical, sexual, emotional, or spiritual abuse; demonic witchcraft; human trafficking; kidnapping; organ theft; and child sacrifice, among others. Sometimes traumatic events in our past can re-surface in the stresses of cultural adjustment. Our God desires lovingly to heal injuries, to restore the innocence of the ones sinned against, and to provide inner strength, peace and well-being.
